The mission of Rhymecology is to use the power of
hip hop and lyrics to help people express, discover and create themselves.
J.Walker, the Rhymecologist, combines his
talent of being a lyricist and counselor, to help at-risk youth to create,
discover and express themselves.
J. has created a program in which at risk youth, in the greater Los Angeles
area, whom he has been counseling for years, come to him to create songs, raps,
lyrics and poems to create, discover and express themselves. Similar to
the theme of “Art Therapy”, J.Walker decided that “Rap Therapy” would be more
prevalent in today’s society. In the program, J. talks about the affect that
hip-hop has on impressionable minds, the golden era of rap, where it is going
and how it affects each individual.
The goal for J.Walker’s rap therapy -
Rhymecology-is
to help children express themselves in a safe, creative manner. Most of the
children have suffered and never had a chance to express themselves freely, much
less in a positive, artistic forum. J.Walker provides that.
Rhymecology, The Book: How
Hip Hop can Help and Hurt
The soon to be released book focuses on all sides
of hip hop, the good, the bad and the ugly and how it all affects the
impressionable youth of today. This book has a one of a kind perspective from
the author J.Walker, who works directly with the inner city youth and families.
Throughout the book there are numerous exercises that J. includes for aspiring
hip hop lyricists, for parents of hip hop lovers and for anyone affected by the
music. It is not a book solely about hip hop, this book also tackles the day to
day issues and mind set of urban children. In this fresh new book, Hip Hop meets
The Secret.
SKILLZ is “Rap Therapy”
SKILLZ is an uplifting hop hip album written and
performed by J.Walker and gilli moon. The mission of the upcoming SKILLZ album,
is to use the power of hip hop lyrics to help people, in particular “at risk
youth”, express, discover and create themselves. With songs like “Its Cool to be
Smart” and “Why Fight?” and “Focus”, the album’s target market is Social
Services, Educational Centers and anyone wanting use the power of hip hop for
good.
